We finished our chapter on finding volumes and surfaces areas of prisms, cylinders, pyramids, cones, and spheres and moved on to the very basics of trigonometry for the last few weeks of the semester.
Algebra I
We finished learning how to add, subtract, and multiply polynomials. The last chapter we are covered for the year was how to factor polynomials.
Algebra II
In keeping with the theme of preparing students for finite mathematics in college, we have done a lot of work on counting principals, permutations, and combinations. In the final few weeks we learned how to use these things for calculating more complicated probabilities. For example: what is the probability of drawing a four of a kind in a five-card hand of poker?
We discussed vectors and a lot of their properties. We also used our newfound knowledge of trigonometry and vectors to take a closer look at the physics of ballistics.
